Common errors
Corrupted Word file
Word says it found unreadable content or won't open the document? Understand the cause and recover the text without risking the original file.
How the problem shows up
- "Word found unreadable content"
- The document opens blank or full of odd symbols
- Word closes as soon as you open the file
Why it happens
A .docx is a zip package with several parts. If a copy was interrupted, a USB stick was pulled mid-write, or the index at the end of the file was lost, Word can't assemble the document.
What to do now
- Make a copy of the file and only work on the copy.
- Try Word's own Open and Repair option.
- If that fails, use Neural Repair's free diagnosis to see how much text comes back before paying.
No program fixes 100% of cases. Zeroed files or files encrypted by ransomware have no content to recover, and the diagnosis tells you so before you pay anything.
